Overview:
The Wood Warbler is one of the brightest Phylloscopus warblers. It is identified by its yellow and clear green wings and head. It also has a wide yellow strip over its eyes. It has bright green upperside and white underside. It can be mixed up with the Willow Warbler but one should note that the Willow is much duller above unlike the Wood Warbler's brighter plumage. It is very active moving from one tree to another searching for insects. Also flies from perches to catch insects in flight. It breeds in most European countries and winters in tropical Africa.
Status:
Common spring migrant and appears in autumn in smaller numbers
When to See:
Spring; end of March until beginning of May. Return passage in autumn from late August till October but is less common. Occasionally falls may occur in spring.
Where to See:
Prefers areas with cover and trees. Ghadira and Simar Nature Reserves are good sites.
